It's the integrity of the system that counts

The important thing to remember here is that the current situation with regard to our civil liberties applies to ALL future presidents, not just Obama or McCain or Paul or Nader, etc., in this election. We cannot depend on the "rule of man" insomuch as it depends on which [hu]man may or may not abuse the power that has been given. That is why our founders insisted on the "rule of law" to govern this country.

Men are capable of corruption. Even the strongest, most ethical man can be corrupted under the right circumstances. Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. What has been given here is something very close to absolute power. We must make the changes in our Constitution and laws to apply and protect us evenly whether a good man or a corrupt, evil one is in power.

I guess because I am an old systems analyst, the system preoccupies my attention. I know that when you set up a good system, it does not matter who is using it or running it, it will work consistently.

That is the goal with our body of law and Constitution. No matter who is running the show, the rule of law will prevail. If that is not secure, then our fate lies at the feet of a [hu]man's folly and our system will eventually fail.
